U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Fee Increases Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 June 2007

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) significantly increased immigration application fees on Monday, June 30, 2007. These higher fees make citizenship cost-prohibitive for thousands of longtime lawful permanent residents who are already contributing to our communities and want to fully integrate into U.S. society.

When the fee hike was originally proposed in January 2007, the National Immigrant Justice Center spoke out against the plan on behalf of thousands of immigrant clients who would not be able to afford the new prices. In the weeks leading up to the fee hike, NIJC's legal staff worked diligently to help immigrants in the Chicago area apply for permanent residence, citizenship, and other benefits before the fees increased.
