For the DHS Worksite Enforcement Policy to be representative of American ideals of fairness and justice, further progress and full protections are required to ensure immigrant workers' rights. Specifically, it is incumbent on the government to provide legal protections to ensure the due process and human rights of immigrant workers, regardless of the nature of their arrest.

As U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rolls out a new program that encourages immigrants to turn themselves in for deportation, Heartland Alliance's National Immigrant Justice Center strongly encourages anyone considering the "self-deportation" option to first consult a qualified immigration lawyer.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it has jailed almost 9,000 foreign-born gang members since 2005.

A four-day operation that ended Wednesday targeted immigrants with gang ties in suburbs and towns northwest of Chicago. ICE, as the agency is known, says 42 of the 49 detainees have criminal histories.
