NIJC has a new Chicago address at 111 W. Jackson Blvd, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60604 and a new email domain at @immigrantjustice.org.

Heartland Alliance’s National Immigrant Justice Center is pleased to accept the Foundation for Improvement of Justice’s Paul H. Chapman medal honoring NIJC’s innovative pro bono program.

NIJC received the award during the foundation’s 27th annual awards banquet, which took place on September 29, 2012 in Atlanta. The award recognizes NIJC’s success in improving access to justice for asylum seekers and other immigrants though partnerships with a network of nearly 1,000 pro bono attorneys.

“We accept this award on behalf of the hundreds of advocates and pro bono lawyers who have dedicated countless hours to defend the rights of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers,” said NIJC Executive Director Mary Meg McCarthy. “We are honored to have our work recognized by an organization whose mission of improving systems of justice is so critical to our own.”

NIJC was among six organizations to accept the 2012 medals. The winners were presented with a check for $10,000 and a commendation bar pin.  The other award recipients were:  The Florida Bar Foundation in Orlando; Hope House in Washington, D.C.; the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) Team in Washington, D.C.; the Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center, Inc., in Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and the National Crime Victim Law Institute in Portland, Oregon.
