Since 2000, the Midwest Light of Human Rights Awards has honored human rights workers and celebrated the contributions of business, civic, and philanthropic leaders in promoting human rights.  The event has grown each year and in 2008 attracted more than 700 guests, including attorneys, business leaders, legislators, and advocates.

The Midwest Light Awards benefits two programs of the Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights: the National Immigrant Justice Center and the Marjorie Kovler Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Torture.
