New York Lawsuit Challenges Constitutionality of ICE Raids Print E-mail

The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund in New York has filed a federal lawsuit charging that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers unlawfully raided immigrants' homes without warrants or other legal justification. The suit asks for a court order prohibiting ICE's New York Regional Office from conducting home raids until the agency develops clear guidelines to end unlawful entries.

La Ley DJ "Shaggy" Among Those Swept Up in Illinois Raids Print E-mail

Chicago Public Radio continues to cover the raids that swept up 58 immigrants in Lake County, Illinois, earlier this month. Today it featured Frumencio Acevedo, a permanent resident and the DJ known as "Shaggy" on the popular Chicago radio station La Ley. Acevedo has been detained at Dodge County Detention Center for more than two weeks since U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested him at his home.

On Day 4 of Illinois Raids, ICE's Intentions Still Unclear Print E-mail

The local newspaper for Waukegan, Illinois, reports today on immigration raids that have occurred throughout the Chicago suburbs since Sunday. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has not yet formally announced the reason for the arrests, despite the fact that more than 50 people are believed to have been detained this week as a result of the raids.
