Heartland Alliance's National Immigrant Justice Center's experienced legal staff can speak about the legal ramifications of immigration laws, provide analysis of how immigration policies play out in immigrant communities, and help put reporters in touch with immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers who can provide a human face to stories about the U.S. immigration system.

The Midwest Coalition for Human Rights brings together a wide range of organizations to bring broader visibility for urgent human rights issues in the Heartland and project a strong Midwest advocacy voice in the national and international human rights debate.

mchr-rectangle_logo.jpgMidwest Coalition members, including the National Immigrant Justice Center, address an array of human rights concerns, but the coalition's main areas of focus are immigrant detention, torture, and workers rights - urgent and interconnected issues that affect Midwesterners.

In the Midwest, immigrant detainees are held at isolated country jails that have contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Members of the immigrant detention committee come together to share resources and knowledge to advocate for humane detention reform that protects the due process and human rights of the men and women held in those jails.

The coalition recently launched a new website, a valuable resource for anyone in the Heartland who cares about human rights. It includes a calendar of human rights events in the region, links to resources, and regional human rights news updates.
